About
Welcome to BEWRO, the website of Bedford Writers’ Circle.
We are a group of writers based across Bedfordshire who meet once a month to review one another’s work, share ideas about writing, and discuss publication and development opportunities.
Group members are both published and unpublished writers of prose, poetry, fiction and non-fiction, of varied experience and across all genres. Some are professional writers, some aspire to be published, others write as a hobby. What we all share is an interest and enthusiasm for writing.
At each meeting everyone has the opportunity to read some of their work for other Members to comment and advise. For those who’d like a bit of inspiration, or a fresh challenge, we run a bi-monthly workshop, which involves a writing exercise for members to work on at home, ready to present back at the next meeting.
In addition we have organised author’s talks by published writers, recorded for Hospital Radio, performed excerpts from our own work at the Bedford River Festival, Bedford Book and Film Festival and at the Hat Factory in Luton, and produced an anthology of members’ work. We also run the Joyce Searle Poetry and Short Story competition. There are regular social events – every year we enjoy a festive dinner together, and last summer we visited Stamford to see an open-air theatre production.
If you share an interest in writing then why not join us? A warm welcome awaits visitors and new members alike. Just turn up at the next meeting or contact us for more information. It is only £6 annually to join the group, then £1 per meeting to cover room hire and refreshments. Visitors pay £2 at meetings. You’ll return home inspired to write.
